MARCH – CONSERVATION DINNER

Monday night, March 26, club members and their husbands were delighted to be at the home of John and Becky Halleron for the annual Conservation Dinner.  Club President Tina Mattimore and Zone III Chairman Chris Duncan presented the Garden Club of America’s Club Appreciation Award to the indefatigable Cindy Mullin for her contributions to South Side GC and GCA.

The guest speaker for the evening was John Turner, Conservation Policy Advocate at Seatuck Environmental Association.  Mr. Turner gave a very informative talk on Plum Island, highlighting the history and great biodiversity of this small island off the north fork of Long Island,  and the need to protect it from development.  After the slide show and some Q & A,  members continued the conversation over a buffet supper prepared by Becky.  Our thanks to John Turner and to the Hallerons for hosting.

South Side’s Program Chairs are looking into a field trip to Plum Island for the fall.
